The plots are situated about 1.4 miles from the ferry terminal on the Island of Bressay which lies just across Bressay Sound from Lerwick, the main town and population centre of Shetland.

A ro-ro ferry service runs between Bressay and Lerwick, generally on an hourly basis throughout the day with extra crossings at peak times. The crossing takes approximately 7 minutes.

Local amenities on Bressay include a shop & post office, a community hall, heritage centre and marina, although the frequent ferry service means amenities in Lerwick are relatively easily accessible. During the summer months it is possible to access the neighbouring uninhabited island of Noss, an important national nature reserve noted for its bird life.
